Breaking News: INSTAT – Construction costs rise driven by wages and operational expenses

Q1 2026
The Construction Cost Index reached 114.4 in Q1 2026, compared to Q4 2021 as the base period. The annual change of the Construction Cost Index in Q1 2026 is 1.1%, while a year earlier this change was 1.0%.

Annual changes by main groups:
Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the highest increase in prices is observed in the group “Wage Expenses” with 4.8%, followed by “Other Costs” with 2.5%, “Transport Expenses” with 1.7%, and “Machinery Expenses” with 1.5%.

On the other hand, the “Material Expenses” group recorded a decrease of 0.9%. Within this group, the sub-index “Construction Materials” decreased by 1.4%, followed by “Hydro-sanitary and ventilation materials” with 0.9%. In contrast, the group “Electrical and communication materials” increased by 0.5%.

Quarterly changes by main groups:
The Construction Cost Index increased by 0.3%, compared to Q4 2025. The highest increase in prices is observed in “Other Costs” with 1.7%, “Wage Expenses” with 0.6%, “Machinery Expenses” with 0.3%, and “Transport Expenses” with 0.3%.

On the other hand, “Material Expenses” decreased by 0.2%. Within this group, decreases were recorded in “Hydro-sanitary and ventilation materials” with 0.8%, and “Construction materials” with 0.4%. Meanwhile, “Electrical and communication materials” increased by 0.2%.
